How we get the personal information and why we have it

The personal information we process is provided to us directly by you for one of the following reasons:

  • In the interest of your safety.

  • To gain an understanding of any history or diagnosis that may impact your current mental health

  • To gain consent for you to be contacted by Turning Page Therapy

  • To allow the counsellor to communicate with you, book and schedule sessions.

  • To allow the counsellor to send resources to you when you agree to this.

  • To allow the counsellor to communicate with your GP practice should they have concern for your safety and you are unable to seek support independently.

  • To allow the counsellor to contact your emergency contact in the event you don’t feel safe to leave the counselling session alone or the counsellor has concern for your safety.

    We use the information that you have given Turning Page Therapy in order to:

    Communicate with you between sessions, only when necessary and when information cannot wait until the next session.

    Send resources agreed upon within sessions.
    To reschedule sessions where necessary.
    To respond to communication you make with Turning Page Therapy.

    We may share this information with:

    - Clinical supervisors only when it is an ethical requirement.

    - Third-party organisations exclusively in the interest of client, public or national safety

Personal information is collected via turningpagetherapy.com using the client consultation form. The link used to access this form is accessed via the welcome email sent to all new or returning clients.

Sharing information with Third Party Organisations

Part of the legitimate interest Turning Page Therapy holds for gathering Personally Identifiable Information is in the interest of client safety. Should the counsellor believe the client’s safety is in risk of harm to/from themselves or others then this information may be shared with a Third Party. This may include but is not limited to:

- Clients GP

- Social Services

- Emergency Services

- Emergency Contact

- Clinical supervisor

How we store your personal information

Your information is securely stored.

We keep all information shared in the ‘client information form’ for a period of 5 years as specified by our insurance company. We will then dispose of your information by deleting this from the cloud storage this is held on, which is done by using a software that ensures information is completely removed from the system. Any brief notes held on paper or hard copy will be shredded and disposed of.

Your data protection rights

Under data protection law, you have rights including:

Your right of access - You have the right to ask us for copies of your personal information.

Your right to rectification - You have the right to ask us to rectify personal information you think is inaccurate. You also have the right to ask us to complete information you think is incomplete.

Your right to erasure - You have the right to ask us to erase your personal information in certain circumstances.

Your right to restriction of processing - You have the right to ask us to restrict the processing of your personal information in certain circumstances.

Your right to object to processing - You have the right to object to the processing of your personal information in certain circumstances.

Your right to data portability - You have the right to ask that we transfer the personal information you gave us to another organisation, or to you, in certain circumstances.

You are not required to pay any charge for exercising your rights. If you make a request, we have one month to respond to you.
